<image:caption>THE DINNER PARTY PROJECT Participation window: April 2022 -November 2022 Public Exhibition and Event at Riachuelo: Saturday, November 26 THE DINNER PARTY AT RIACHUELO is an ongoing, collaborative, community project designed to gather and welcome artists to connect, co-create, and become inspired around a shared experience and environment. It is also part of the 2022 Artist in Residency program and culminates in an event on Saturday, November 26. About THE DINNER PARTY: To introduce Riachuelo to the community, we are doing a project centered around our artists in residency and a series of dinners, conversations, and the creation of site-specific art. Artists are chosen based on their interest, work, and enthusiasm to participate. Dinners are ongoing by invitation, and participating artist residents will be invited to design and create an artwork that considers the unique property and home, leaving a piece or two on loan with the potential of becoming part of the permanent collection. The project will culminate in a community event at Riachuelo to celebrate the works created by the group. The event will be an open house where people come to meet the artists, see the exhibition, tour the property, listen to music, and enjoy nibbles and libations. This project provides an opportunity for artists, painters, sculptors, poets, musicians, and performers to build relationships, discuss ideas, and exhibit new work. Riachuelo’s Creative Programmer, Stephanie Spindler, will facilitate the project. How to get involved: If you would like to participate in the Dinner Party project as a local artist, please submit a short letter of interest and tell us a little about yourself (500 words max) and include up to five images of your work in a pdf format, or a link to representations of your work to stephanie.spindlerphd@gmail.com. There is no fee to apply, and dinners are vegetarian.</image:caption>

After graduating from the Savannah College of Art and Design she followed her love of big mountains, clear rivers and blue skies to Colorado . There she continued to make art, raise a son, teach art, open a yoga studio, ride horses and travel to juried art shows. In 2014, Ashley moved home to Georgia and began focusing on gallery representation and small shops and boutiques. Currently she is represented by the Wally Workman Gallery, Austin, TX and the Ivy Brown Gallery, NYC. <image:caption>Najah Thomas-Young I am a Detroit-based, fringe artist working to intentionally push emotional boundaries with viewers, focusing on creating physical environments based on internal processes. Using garment design and sculpture as the core of my work while exploring writing, film and music in addition to the pieces in order to accurately portray an experience. I find that my conceptual ideas can be expressed more accurately through fashion using human forms and curated spaces. Life-sized or larger human forms can alter the perception of space alone, depending on the viewer’s understanding of the story, it can alter one's perception of self. My residency at Riachuelo is introducing me to using trees in more human forms, exploring what types of garment shapes will come of it and how each piece will develop my personal style of patterning for humans. The goal is to truly and accurately communicate through these mediums from a standpoint of unwavering curiosity. Email</image:caption>

<image:caption>Regna Danu Frank-Jones Hello. I’m Regna. I try not to take myself too seriously these days, since life can be tricky, and messy, and hard, and we need to laugh a lot to stay sane. It’s also beautiful, and juicy, and full of wonder, so I’m focusing on that too as I navigate my inner and outer worlds to make sense of it all. On September 7th, 2021, my hero and dad, Steve, left this world to join my mamma, Janet, for an adventure in another realm. She had been waiting for him for precisely two years and two weeks—we joke that heaven needed a new floor or something, so it was time for him to go and help her out. Their collective spirit-power, activated in love and kindness burns bright, and though I miss them both like crazy, I feel their radiance and laughter all around me, especially in this incredible home they built together, left now for me and their family and friends to steward and share. I can think of no better way to share their legacy and values than to open up the property to travelers, artists, and those seeking respite. Just as they always did. My passion is building community through art, self-expression, and collaboration. For the past 30+ years, it has been my great privilege to work in support of the arts through a fulfilling and winding pursuit of creative and impactful work both in private and nonprofit sectors. Currently, I work as a freelance producer and advisor for nonprofit organizations in film and theater alongside my studio work as a painter. I am the proud mom of two incredible sons, and when not onsite at Riachuelo, I’m in Denmark where I live part-time with my Danish sweetheart and his lovely children. <image:title>Janet and Steve</image:title>
<image:caption>Janet Marie (Lake) Baird November 14, 1943 - August 23, 2019 Janet Marie Baird, whose life inspired her family and her many friends on six continents, died on August 23 at her home in Cedaredge, CO. She was 75 and still making plans for travel and learning to play the fiddle when she passed away peacefully in her favorite chair with a book and a cup of tea at her side. The cause of death was heart failure. Ms. Baird was born on November 14, 1943, in Fort Collins, Colorado. She was the daughter of Hugh Bennett Lake and Minnie Lee Lake (Hauser), he a longtime employee of the Postal Service and she a homemaker on their small family farm of 10 acres. Ms. Baird grew up with her siblings Carolyn and John on this farm where she learned to work with animals and the land. Her lifelong love for gardening and everything green and natural derives from these years of childhood. It was there, too, that she learned her gentle Christian faith and imbibed the love of her parents and family. After graduating from High School in 1962, Ms. Baird went on to attend nursing school at St. Luke’s Hospital in Denver, Colorado. Her nursing career led her to Salt Lake City where she met and married Dennis Walter Frank, a pharmacist, with whom she had two children, Zephyr Lake Frank and Regna Danu (Frank) Jones. The marriage ended in divorce in 1974. Ms. Baird was remarried, to Stephen Baird, a woodworker, builder, and artist in 1978, becoming mother to Zachary Baird and Rachel Baird. Together with Mr. Baird, with whom she shared 41 years of happy marriage, she moved to Cedaredge, Colorado, in 1981, and built a home on Ward Creek. She continued her nursing career at the Delta County Department of Public Health, where she dedicated herself to the care of young pregnant mothers and, after giving birth, to the wellness and development of their children until her retirement. Her last four decades were filled with love, travel, and personal growth. Ms. Baird loved to learn and to make things; she loved more than anything to connect to other people. Her faith and her passion for family and friends resulted in a life of travel and tireless correspondence. Together with her husband, she helped build a hospital in Uganda, raised funds for an elderly woman’s hip replacement in Guatemala, and built a library and sewing center in South Africa. Her lifetime of travel also took her to the Philippines as an exchange student, to Europe on many occasions, and to South America. Everywhere she went she made new friends. Many of these friends remained in close contact with Ms. Baird over decades and her family home in Cedaredge became known for its international guests. Ms. Baird lived a remarkable life. She was modest in her wants but incredibly generous with her friends and family. Her travels and adventures were staggeringly varied—she climbed mountains, crossed Europe on a bicycle, slept in shepherd’s huts, and celebrated her 40th wedding anniversary last year in Paris at La Coupole—always with her beloved husband Steve by her side. The range of her connections was unparalleled: she reached out to inmates serving life terms and to middle class professionals with equal sincerity, her circle of care truly knew no bounds. Ms. Baird never stopped learning and growing. She participated in reading circles and persistently strove to push her friends to read challenging books. She practiced music with admirable dedication. Her answer was always affirmative. Yes to her faith, to her family and friends, to the notion that life is worth living to the fullest and on her own terms. Such a life bears remembering. Ms. Baird is survived by her husband Stephen, her children Zephyr, Regna, Zachary, and Rachel, her brother John and sister Carolyn, her Aunt Cebe and Uncle Glen, and her grandchildren Nolan, Paulo, Angus, Henri, Gabriela, and Connor. In keeping with her dedication to the needs of others, the family suggests a donation, in lieu of flowers, to Solar Cookers International, an organization dedicated to serving refugees that Ms. Baird supported for two decades.</image:caption>

<image:title>Janet and Steve - Stephen Peter Paul Baird</image:title>
<image:caption>January 15, 1950 - September 7, 2021 Steve Baird, born in Bermuda Jan 15th, 1950, to Rodney Baird and Evelyn Bough Baird has gone to join his love, Janet. Steve is survived by his beloved daughter Regna Jones and her siblings Zephyr Frank, Zachary Baird and Rachel Baird, and his grandchildren Nolan, Paulo, Angus, Henri, Connor, and Gabriela and his Sister Laura and Brother Michael. He traveled the world and made a family that extends across the globe. He touched many lives with his art, craftsmanship, and most importantly his inexhaustible capacity for love. He and Janet traveled extensively, sometimes by bicycle, sometimes on foot, often with a hospitable local who offered them a ride and a meal. His appetite for knowledge and intellectual rigor gave him an ability to ruminate deeply and debate or discuss topics as varied as making the perfect Pullman loaf of Danish Rye, religion, world politics, history, art, and how to live from the heart with love, gratitude, generosity, humor, and humility. Never one to be afraid to speak his mind, he would also fearlessly and unapologetically change it when given new insight. A true Renaissance Man. There was no idea or project he couldn’t tackle with a sketch, a scrap, and his own ingenuity. His drive matched his passion and enthusiasm. Anything was possible. A peer to fellows such as Thoreau and Twain he lived a life connected to nature…following the tenet of simplicity. “Eschew Surplusage” as his self-made bumper sticker proclaimed. A fine whiskey, a lively dance with his true love (always with a sparkle in his eye,) a feast set out on a table he made himself. He laughed loud and hard at many gatherings surrounded by family and friends. A deep thinker, he never took himself or the world’s vagaries too seriously yet faced both himself and life with profound integrity. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that in memory of Steve’s life, you perform an act of kindness and generosity as your spirit moves you.</image:caption>

      <image:title>2025 Artists - AND, YOU — Film Shoot - February 2025</image:title>
<image:caption>Henri Jones Henri Jones is a 22-year-old visual artist and storyteller living in Detroit, MI. Specializing in Writing and Directing, his work enters physical and sensual realms in order to discover the self through physical objects and images. In 2024, Henri created his first narrative short, “Shepherds Club” which was screened at film festivals in Grand Rapids, MI, Chicago, and Germany. While Henri enjoys writing and directing, he also explores experimental storytelling, photography, and music video creation. His work can often be identified for the interesting use of color, extreme contrast, and art direction. For all of the intelligence, empathy, and power that human beings can exhibit, we still struggle everyday with sexuality and forming intimate relationships. “And, You” explores how vulnerability forces us to repress opposing parts of our psyche, creating a shadow that, if not reconciled in the self, becomes projected onto others.
